Wired.com just posted a piece about the DMCA, copyright trolls, and how a small fee could help sites solidify DMCA "safe harbor" status.

I understand TFL's new policy but I thought I would share to hopefully this would help insure TFL isn't directly the target of any copyright lawsuits.

Full-Tang,

Thank you for posting this. A friend of mine also sent this to me earlier today and I've brought it to staff's attention.

Even if TFL goes this route, I personally believe that our current copyrighted materials policy should stay in place as a means of reinforcing our position against any potential future suits.

As is noted in the Wired article, Righthaven intents to start shopping around for more newspapers they can pull this stunt with. To me it's pretty clearly NOT an altruistic exercise in protection of intellectual property rights -- it's a money-grubbing shyster looking to make a quick buck.
