View Full Version : Garand Reassembly problem

Got a problem reassembling my "new" garand. Took out the trigger group and separated the stock from the barrel and receiver group. Lubed everything. Barrel and receiver group go back into the stock fine. Trigger group drops in by the trigger guard won't go back down. Way too much resistance and don't want to force it. Did not dissemble this group so its as I took it out. Any ideas?

If the trigger group seats into the stock and the trigger guard closes to within an inch or so, just push it all the way shut until it latches.
Properly adjusted, the M1 trigger guard is intended to put tension on the action and trigger group. It should not swing freely shut.
If the trigger group won't seat fully, look for whatever is preventing it.
You can remove the action from the stock and test seat the trigger group into the stock. This will eliminate something in the stock interfering.
While it's apart, test seat the trigger group into the action.
If the trigger group won't seat in the action, look for burrs on the trigger guard locking pins, or damage or debris in the receiver lower "legs" where the trigger guard locking pins seat.

Make sure the hammer is cocked, push the group into the rifle and swing the trigger guard down hard. The trigger guard serves as a spring and locks the trigger group in. It can take a stiff push to seat.
