Barrel Length

I'm considering buying a S&W 686, and I was wondering if there were any competitive shooting events that would not allow the 6" barreled version. Also, which events are suited to a DA revolver.

IDPA is a great format for revolvers but you would have to go with the 4 inch (unless they make a 5 incher now). The limit in IDPA is 5 inches for revolvers.

I've had several 686's in my life, both 4's and 6's - they both shoot GREAT and the only advantage I ever found in the 6 inch was for hunting (extra velocity).
