Im looking to buy extra magazines for my Colt AR-15. Can anyone recommend brands I should buy / stay away from? Im looking for 10 rounders, or pre-ban 20 rounders, as I live in NY State. Thanks.

Magpuls generally have a sterling reputation. I also hear good things about C-Mags if you're in a hurry to dump a lot of ammo through your AR-style rifle and not wanting to waste time swapping out mags.

Well I don't think C-mags will work for him as he lives in NY and they have some pretty dumb laws there. (I live right across the NY/PA border....COME JOIN US for real gun rights!)

+1 to Magpul P Mags, I think they come in 10-20 rounders too, I'm order some 30 rounders soon.

Thanks for the replies. I see magpul makes 10 rounders for us poor saps in NY and CA. I have a few questions; are the polymer ones ok compared to the steel ones? Also, when I buy mags for my ak, sometimes they don't fit well, and the guy at the store does his magic to make them fit perfectly. Is there a similar issue with AR mags, or do they generally fit right out of the box. Thanks again.

ar mags should be good to go from the start. Polymer is fine. P mags are great.

To spec AR mags (magpul mags meet that description) don't need any tweaking that I've found so far.

I've literally tap danced on some loaded and unloaded magpul mags to see if they'd take it and it caused no issues. They are pretty darned tough and I highly recommend them.

Pmags and CProducts are the only 2 commercial mags I'll buy and not 1 single malfunction in my AR-15 in 3 years with around 3000+ rounds through it. Non-commercial mags like the old GI 20rd mags with aluminum followers have been 100% great also. I pick a few up at every gun show I goto.
