View Full Version : .44 MAG - AR 15 - Hmmmmmm ?

There was another post maybe on another site about the possible match of the .44 mag chambered in the AR-15. They talked about feeding problems with the rimmed round. If someone could make this combo work reliably it would be the hot ticket. I love my 1894 Marlin in .44 mag but in an AR...WOWZER !

Why not go for the .458 SOCOM if you have a hankering for a big bore AR? I mean if you're going to do it why not?

I wonder if you could rebarrel a .308 AR to the .44 Auto Mag. The original parent case for the Auto Mag is the 30-06. 30-06 has the same case head dimensions as the .308. Getting the Auto Mag to feed from a .308 magazine might be a problem, but you'd have your 44 Mag in a AR.

I'm thinking the rim diameter of the 44 case is going to be a tight fit in the AR15 boltface and the feeding of that size rimmed case is going to be difficult.

You could do the automag pretty easy but I bet getting it to feed from rifle mags would be a pain. I know going to the 450, 458 or 50 has it's drawbacks but they all run and at least in the case of the 458, with bone stock .223 mags.
