Anyone know of any good semi-autos in 30-06 besides the Garande?

While I've never had one, Remington's made 740's, 7400's, and 7600's (I think those were the semi's and not the pumps) for many many moons. Some swear by them and some swear at them. They have 3 or 4 round magazies, some with cut-offs, and somebody made a clear-ish polymer 10 round.

It would be fun to play with a Johnson.

Remington 750 (http://www.remington.com/product-families/firearms/centerfire-families/autoloading-model-750.aspx)

Browning BAR (http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/family.asp?webflag_=002B)

Benelli R1 (http://www.benelliusa.com/rifles/benelli_r1_rifle.php)

Browning BAR or Benelli R1 would be the best choices.

Oh, and Winchester has the SXR in .30-06SPR, guess it's been out for a while now.

I am not sure but I think FN made a military version in the late 40s or early 50s.

The FN Model 49 was made in .30

Remington model 740, 742, 7400, 4, and 750.

I can't believe every post did not mention the FN-49. I had one bought through the mail, too. They were made in several rifle calibers, both in .30-06 and I think in most of the Mauser calibers. Couldn't say which is more common. I don't think they were ever made in .308 and probably no one has bothered to convert any to another caliber.

Browning makes a BAR Longtrac in that caliber as does Benelli. I have a Shorttrac in 308. The barrel's longer than I would prefer but the ergonomics and accuracy are very good.

I can vouch that the Benelli R1 is a FINE rifle. My dad (now about 80 years old) perfers the semi auto to a bolt gun. He claims his bones are brittle in his older age.

It groups well and is a flawless performer in the field. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.

I have a Browning BAR MkII Safari w/BOSS in .30/06. It's a great gun and has accompanied me on every hunt for the past ten years.

I would highly recommend the BAR MkII Safari as well as the LongTrac version. My dad has a LongTrac in .270 Win and loves it.

Last time I checked, prices on good used BARs weren't bad.

This Browning BAR MkII Safari (.30/06) (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=173863174) is a steal of a deal...

If I hadn't just bought a X-Bolt Varmint in .308 I would be very, very tempted to buy it.

I have to say that is one beautiful rifle

You can get the Merkel SR1 (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=173540639) in 30-06 too.

It would be fun to play with a Johnson.

Did you mean that to be as funny as reads? ;)

Siaga makes one.

I had Remington 7400 in 30-06 it was pretty decent for the money the biggest thing I hated the most was that if you didn't tourqe the barrel nut to the same tourqe that it was when zeroed the POI would shift, but I also heard the Benelli R-1 also does this.

Saiga makes an AK action in '06, believe it or not. They don't import many into the U.S. but those that do fly pretty quick.

I have one of the remingtons in 30-60, it is ok but I also have a BAR in 300 win mag that is hands down a better rifle.

If you are looking for the best big game auto...the browning BAR is it hands down.

Here's my 7mm Rem Mag, special run, Safari "lightwieght". The boss systems is awesome by the way! Since we all love pics!

The remington 750 is a nice rife. Me, my Dad, and my Grandpa all have one. We kill ALOT of deer with those things.
