There is a snap cap in my chamber with my bolt closed but my bolt won't open. Help!

point the gun muzzle up. Put pressure on the bolt handle as if you are going to open it and slam the butt against the ground. That usually works.

Didn't budge a bit.

Field expedient technique (that works very well) is to place butt on ground, hold by barrel at the gas cylinder, pointing away from you (if your smart :)), and kick it open with the heel/outside instep of your boot.

I'm worried I will break it.

Its stronger than you. :)

You could always try a 2x4 and a hammer/small maul instead of your foot, but you'll need extra hands.

I've done the boot thing a couple of times, on M1's and FAL's by the way, and it worked every time.

If it makes a difference I only had 7 snap caps (lost one) so I put a piece of .270 brass as the 8th round and that is what is stuck.

Brass fired in other guns usually doesnt work out to well. The case is fire formed to that guns chamber.

A couple of the rounds I kicked out were due to that very problem, 30-06 loaded for another rifle that werent full length resized, and the bolt was allowed to slam home on them. The kick thing has always worked for me, but I understand your being hesitant.

These guns were designed to kill fascists and commies in all weather...it'll survive your shoe just fine ;)

Stomping it open with the heel on one's boot was the standard procedure for jammed (action full of sand), M1's by the training sargents when I was in basic training. I saw no instance of the procedure not working (action always opened), or of breaking anything.

If you don't want to stomp it open, put "some" pressure on the op rod knob and drop a cleaning rod down the barrel.
