What happens if you use a shorter buffer in an AR15? I have a rifle that is working, but makes a "springy" sound when fired. It has a full-length rifle sized buffer. If I put in a carbine length buffer what will happen -- will it still work?

Keep shooting your AR, you wont get rif of the "springy sound" but you'll get where you dont hear it.

OK, let me ask the same question a different way. Why is the AR15 buffer designed to be the length that it is in the rifle and carbine lengths?

The buffer tube on the collapsible M4 stock is shorter than the A1/A2 rifle version, so the buffer itself must be shorter to compensate.
