Well, depends on your price range. You can't go wrong with a Colt, so I'm told.
I run a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 MOE Edition. This is a great rifle from the factory. Maybe not as tough as a Mil Spec rifle, but mine is deadly accurate, has been completely reliable in all conditions, and accepts all the extras easily.
Price is $1000-$1500 depending on the model, locations, etc.

I was in the same boat as the OP and went with the Colt 6920.
The link above has some great info on selecting an AR. I'm now building a second AR using a CMMG Lower Receiver since I liked the 6920 so much. The CMMG will be more of a Target/Accurized Rifle.

FOR THE MONEY Stag hands down.....Stag is a great company to deal with. They make a reliable and quality platform.

Do you want/ need a 1:9 twist or 1:7 barrel?
Also consider the Daniel Defense XV, the S&W M&P 15, or popping a Bravo Co. complete upper on a complete lower of your choice.

That on a spikes lower, with some $20 handguards and a decent BUIS. Hard to beat.

You can't really go wrong with a Colt and Stag's are also good. I think either would be a fine purchase, however I think you should check out S&W's offerings.
I picked up a S&W M&P15X a few months back and it has since become my favorite rifle. For the price of a Colt, you could get a S&W and still have plenty of money for optics or other accessories. I bought the gun, an Eotech 511, TangoDown Battle Grip, a Solarforce L2 and mount plus 8 mags for around the price of an entry level Colt. Given, the gun was on sale and had a rebate for 5 free Pmags at the time I purchased it. I'd assume a good deal can still be found on one though.
