I have been thinking of getting an AR-15 (.223) as my first gun purchase in 2010.

Looking for a stock model that i would scope out at some point in the near future. I would mostly use it at the range and for HD.

I just started doing research on this yesterday and then today I got an EMAIL from CDNN on AR-15 specials. (I bought a 50th anniversary Blackhawk from them about a month ago at a great price and the transaction went perfect....so I would buy from them again).

1 special that caught my attention is a Bushmaster as listed below. I can't find it on their site as i am sure CDNN bought up all their stock (an older model?).

Can anyone comment on this AR?>>>>>>:

Based on what you posted this would probably be my choice, I'd take CMMG over BM any day especially since in this case the BM has a fixed carry handle.

Don't know much about Charles Daily AR's but that seems like a decent deal too.

I don't know anything about Bushmasters but that is a good price on the 6920.

I too don't know much about the BM. I have friends that have and like the COLT/S&W AR's. I have a LWRC M6A3 and love it. If I had to get another AR, I would definitley get one with a quad rail.... helps with all the stuff you want to mount on it:) One thing if you decide to look at the piston driven is research and make sure there are no issues with carrier tilt. Some have fixed the issue and some still have issues. After shooting 600+ rounds through a piston the BCG is still clean.

If you wish in the future to add optics to your AR I would not even consider something that does not have a removeable carry handle. The removeable carry handle allows for easy change from optics to classic carry handle sighting systems. For me, this was a must have when I bought mine. Quad rail might be a nice add also.

You might also take a look at rguns.com. They usually have a good supply at a fair price. Yes I would buy from them again. CDNN is also a fine place to buy.

I'm a Bushmaster novice - I first bought a brand new Varminter - black 24" barrel - not stainless, installed a Burris 4X12 Laser scope & bi pod and went to put it on paper @ 100 yds. Since I'm a 1911 guy this took a while and I used up my limited supply of factory ammo just getting it on paper. I was down to gun show re loads I had bought mainly for the brass but my last 5 shot group had a max spread center to center of .5". I finally have enough components to do some serious re loading and don't see why I can't reduce a 3 shot to 1/4 min. I'm not sure I like the trigger because I've never shot another AR for comparison. Apples to oranges but it sure doesn't pull like my custom 1911s!

I just bought another like new Bushmaster XM15-E2S with a EOTech 517.A65 sight (no iron sights). This was from an estate sale and practically stole it but haven't shot yet - got the rifle as new, soft case 600+ rounds of new factory ammo, the sight and 5 clips for $700+. Don't imagine it will be the tack driver my Varminter is.

I like accuracy - no need for a 2nd shot if the 1st hits what you aim at. I believe if it works, don't fix it but not sure I'll like the non magnified EOTech for long range & if the trigger pull can be improved - well. I've seen Bushmaster's writeup on their competition trigger - are there better ones?

Any thoughts or suggestions that won't require a 2nd mortgage?

Send your trigger to Bill Springfield for $35 and save the money you would spent on a couple hundred $$ fire control group.

I always agree with this suggestion too.

BCM mid length($425) + ($139) BCM BCG paired with a Spikes Tactical complete lower ($249), ($25) CavArms Handguards is about the best you can get for your money IMO.

I'm with RockyMtnTactical on the BCM guns, but I have to say, in your list, the Charles Daly seems to be the best bang for the buck. They are the little known secret of the AR15 world in terms of value.

I'd buy the lower seperate, and get an upper from either Bravo Company, CMMG, or Bushmaster. There are some pretty good deals in the AR15 market, so some shopping would be a good idea. I'd look for an upper that had a detachable carry handle, and a chrome lined barrel from a Company that has a good reputation for quality. You should ck out web sites like Bravo Company, MSTN, Global Tactical, Noveske, Rock River, Arms, and others to see if they have any specials going on. Most companies have caught up with the buying frenzy, and are starting to put out "specails".

BCM upper + spikes lower + rear sight of your choice.
Also check out Aero Preceision lower with LPK ($130) + spikes stock kit.

Note:
S&W Upper fit exactly on my 2 spikes lower (no gap, no rattle).
BCM and spike combo has a paper thin gap (copier paper between the upper and lower fixes it).
