Are the aluminum shell followers really that much better than the cheap plastic ones?

Is it worth $20.00

Will it be more reliable?

I would swap out a plastic for metal follower immediately.

Just too risky to count on something that could last forever or break today...

I also noted that Junior has the red/orange plastic one. Unlike my black one, I initially thought... "LOADED TUBE" on first sight as I am used to black is empty on mine and 12 gauge shells are usually red.

In mine, I look for black or brass.

Metal followers are well worth the money. They don't take away space in the tube like the solid end plastic followers.

I am big fan of the Vang stainless follower.

Kuhnhausen mentions that in high mileage trap 870s and 1100s the metal followers contribute to peening of the receiver at the end of the mag tube.

In most cases, I doubt it makes any difference.

The 870s here have either plastic followers or steel, depending on vintage. No problems to report.
