As I understand, there are "california versions" of this gun that don't have a flash hider, but instead have a muzzle break (which is legal here).

What about the Socom 16 and M1a Scout models? Do these rifles have a California counterpart or are they only equipped with a muzzle break to compensate for the shorter barrel, (in which case would be legal by default?)

I'd like to get the scout or the Socom model, but am on the fence about which to get, and I need to know the legality first before I even start wasting time dreaming about it (which I've already done plenty of...)

The muzzle brake is a default on the M1A Scout or SOCOM. There will also be no bayonet lug on the muzzle brake.

And it will ship with a 10rd magazine.

The only difference between an AZ M1A Scout and a CA M1A Scout is the magazine that comes with it. And, I can legally change out the muzzle brake for a flash suppressor with proper bayonet lug.
