Hornady .452 Flex Tip in a .45 ACP? Anyone done it?

Lots of hog hunting here in central Texas. Now a mountain lion too. Have added a .45 in a drop-leg holster for the long walks back to camp in the twilight. I'm a huge fan of ballistic tipped bullets (plastic tips) in my 300 Wby and .204 Ruger rifles. Saw Hornady now has their .452 Leverevolution Flex Tip in 200 grain available for reloaders. These were made for the .460 S&W, but I'm reading that some folks are using them in .45acp with great results. My understanding on .45acp is that you use .451 bullets if they are jacketed, but can go to .452 if its a cast bullet. Hornady just started shipping these Flex Tips in March, so there might not be much practical experience. So I guess my question is how much trouble that extra .001" is going to cause me. (and, yes I could just use a JHP of some kind ... and, yes I am overreacting to having a lion growling/stalking me for 200 yards on the other side of a thicket) Just trying to be prepared next time.

I know my Rainer copper washed are .452 and have had good luck
with them....But I too saw the bullet your talking about and wondered
about .45 APC and .45 Colt as well.

If you can get it to fit, it may work, but likely the bullets aerodynamic shape will be too long for a .45 ACP magazine.

I wanted to do the same with the .50 cal Leverevolution (.500S&W) in a Desert Eagle .50, but the bullets were too long to fit in the DE mag. A bummer as they are very accurate in my .500.

Get some good hard cast 230gr or a good quality 230gr hollow point and you will be better off than with the FTX. The point behind the FTX is to have less drop at longer ranges. The 45ACP isn't a long range caliber so you won't benefit at all from the FTX, especially over good HP or hardcast.

Another consideration is will the bullet expand reliably at the velocities you'll be pushing it out of a .45ACP when it was designed for the .45LC/.454/.460?

I saw those for sale too. Wonder why no cannelure? The loaded ones for sale for 45 Colt only go about 887 FPS from my 4" Redhawk. The loaded ones are 225 grains and the reloader bullets are only 200 grains. Odd.
