View Full Version : Garand Style Winged Front Sight?

I enjoy shooting with iron sights and would like to have a gunsmith install some iron sights on my bolt gun. I am planning to install a rear peep sight on my rifle and would like to have a front sight attached to the barrel of my rifle. If possible, I would like to have a Garand style front sight (the kind with the protective metal wings on either side of the sight) installed.

Does anyone make a good quality winged front sight that can be fit onto the barrel of a commercial .308 hunting rifle? I've seen some winged sights from Brockman's gunsmithing that are screwed onto the barrel, but I'm wondering if someone makes a banded type of front sight that can be slipped over the barrel and soldered into place.

The other day I inadvertently bumped the barrel pretty hard of another one of my long guns and I thought I might have damaged the front sight. Fortunately, the sights on the gun seem to have escaped any noticeable damage, but the incident made me think that maybe a winged front sight would be more durable than a traditional front sight for my gun.

Thanks in advance.

There are several ways of getting a protected front sight.

One is to modify a military front sight. One possibility is an M1 Carbine sight or other military sight.

Here are some others, some of which could be modified to work:

Thanks for the links and post! This is helpful. I also am going to look at a front sight from an M1 Carbine or from a newer style Mini 14 (which also has the wings).
