S&W 649 Disassembly

I just got my new to me 649 I bought from Gun Broker. I have searched this forum and the S&W forum looking for a link that explains the disassembly for a J frame but have come up empty. Anyone here have a link that will help?

Kuhnhausen S&W Revolver shop manual is the best resource.

If you want to open it up without a map, first remove the grips. Then you can remove the side plate screws, be careful do not scratch your frame. Do not pry the side plate off...rap it or the grip with a plastic or rubber mallet and the plate will pop off.

I really don't recommend removing the side plate without the Kuhnhausen book or some other guide as to the parts. The reason being is sometimes things move about once you rap off the side plate.

That said, its pretty simple in there, easy enough for most people to swap out springs and do some lube and/or trigger jobs.
