from Murle's gunshop in Granbury, TX. He had quite an assortment onhand, and I relieved his inventory of 1lb each of the following:

IMR4064
Varget
IMR4350
IMR4831

It wasn't cheap though; around $150 total... but now I have powder. ;)

If anybody is local he might have just what you need.

How far have we fallen? Getting that for $150 is cause for celebration? :(

How far have we fallen that getting that, for $150 is cause for celebration?

Tell me about it.

I will have to say though, even at $150, it made my friggin day.

Sad, but true.

I have been to Murle's many times. His prices are way to high for me. I have never left any green backs there. Gibson's in Weatherford have powder also Elk Castle in Fort Worth. I don't know what their prices are but I bet they beat Murle's.

An average of THIRTY SEVEN FIFTY a pound for powder?:eek::eek:

I'd have told him to alternately choke on it and shove it!

I'd have done the shoving for him, and that service would have been free.

Tex S, I'm happy that you were able to get some much needed supplies... REALLY, I am, and that much is sincere.

But for you and anyone who reads this thread, let's not EVER forget who drives the regulation retail products-- the MARKET drives it.

Bottom line is that when YOU paid an average of $37.50 per pound of powder, you just made FOUR votes on what the end user is willing to pay for powder.

And that effort does not help anyone other than the retailers and distributors and ultimately, the manufacturers.

As consumers, our votes are horribly important. Let's use that power wisely.

As for the thread, I will remember to avoid Murle's gunshop in Granbury, TX as if he were the bubonic plague. :little vomiting smiley icon:

I agree with Sevens that is really high. I am very glad you got what you needed, and that is sincere. Glad I dont live over that way I know I would not buy nothing from him.

Desperate times call for desperate measures fellas.

I had several options:

1) go without powder
2) call all over town only to hear, "Nope. Out of stock."
3) search online only to see "backorder"
4) suck it up and pay Murle the high prices he wanted

He had it, I wanted it, done deal. Trust me, I didn't want to pay $38 a pound, but I also don't want my reloading bench to sit idle all winter long.

Since I was able to get the powder, I loaded up some ammo this morning. Tomorrow morning I will be shooting. Sucks I had to pay out the wazzoo for it, but now I can continue load development for several of my rifles.

Holly smokes was that price steep.:(

I know I would have passed at that price. My powder averages around $23 per pound though I have seen place like GM wanting top dollar at around $29.

I see your point but still that will keep their prices high since they can get it.

I can get all four powders in one lb. canisters listed for less then $90 at Scheel's All Sports.
Keep buying at the price you paid and our cost will never come down.

compare the prices at powder valley.com for what you should be paying.

Give the guy a break. He needs powder and apparently the local market dictates the high price he paid. Consider that some people really don't care what the price is, as long as they can do what they want/need. I could subscribe to the ammo conspiracy, but I don't really care. The market will set the price in the long run and denying my wants at this point isn't going to make a lot of difference. While I think some heavy duty inflation is imminent, ammo prices will decline relatively, after the post-election run is over. Meanwhile, you can choose to shoot.... or not.

Desperate times call for desperate measures fellas.
If you are in Granbury, you are less than an hour from DFW area Gun Shows that take place on a near-weekly basis.
Dallas Market Hall--two weeks ago.
Big Town Mesquite--last wekend.
Fort Worth--this weekend.
I saw and bought the more common powders (231/296/Unique, etc) the last two weekends for $24-26 per pound.
Also bought two old cans of 296 for $10 each :)
Now, to load up some more .41 Mag...

Wow...I'm sorry to hear that the powder situation is so tough in your neck of the woods. I'm grimacing at paying $25 a pound for Bullseye at my local shop. I guess that what I really need to do is to get a bunch of buddies together and buy a lot of powder.

Maybe you can find some pals in your area and do the same.

I can't really criticize anyone for paying what they've gotta pay if there's nothing else available - I guess that's the nature of supply and demand.

Well, at least you only bought one pound of each. I've been trying to only buy enough components to last a month or so, each time I purchase. Only what I absolutely need. I don't want to feed the fire if I can help it. But reloading (and unloading) is the only hobby that I am truly passionate about, so its tough to just put it completely on the back burner until the panic buying spree is over and the manufacturers catch up. Hopefully that will be sooner than later.

At my local shop, Harbor Reloading in Clearwater, FL , I'm paying $23.50 for a 1lb of anything.

P.S. the last time I was there... 1 month ago, he had SPP for $38.50/1000.

I agree with you dont get me wrong. You needed and he had it. What can you do? Just to bad things need to be that way. I am glad you got what you had to have. I am pretty lucky around here, there is one place by were my son in law lives that gets a shipment once every two weeks, and they will hold what I need till my son in law picks it up. They run around 23.00 on average for a pound. For awhile I was finding things at the small ma and pa shops, but they ran out also. I guess you need to do to keep shooting and reloading, and I love to do both. Just hope it starts to come to a end soon. Again glad you got what you needed.

Well...

Powder Valley is sold out of two of those powders at the moment...
But they had one of the four you bought in an EIGHT POUND JUG for $130 + shipping + hazmat. Eight pounds.

Even the Gouger Mountain here has everything back in stock at MSRP plus of 24.99/lb for most powders ( a few still at 19.99). Your price is over the top. Sounds like you need to buy in 4 or 8# jugs atone time and the shipping and hazmat won't be that bad on a per pound basis
