How's ammo availability for this upper ?

Spotty. Midway carries it but it's like all ammo now and often not in stock. Silver State Armory has become the definitive source but they are havng a hard time keeping up with demand.

FYI you may want to read up at 68forums (http://68forums.com/forums/index.php).

On the best of days, it runs around a dollar a round. I prefer to shoot Hornady TAP (115gr?) ballistic tips out of mine.

These guys usually have 6.8 ammo as well as brass http://www.ssarmory.com/6.8ammunitionsales.aspx. For factory ammo, Silver state has been the most accurate in my rifle. Maybe true for the upper you buy, maybe not. Different rifle, different appetite. Factory ammo is usually $1/round but you can reload for ~$0.40/round....and gain substantial accuracy.

SSA is moving to a bigger facility in Washington State, although I'm not sure if they are up and running yet.

I've never had a problem getting it, but I also reload, and since SSA brass is good for 8-10 loads, and 270 bullets are pretty easy to find, its not bad for me! ; )
Powder is another story.
Love my 6.8...its my fav AR platform, by far.
