Hey everybody, I have a mini 14 that I purchased about two years ago.
Its just plain mini 14 .223 nothing special. I am interested in buying a scope for the gun. Just wondering what you guys suggest as a good scope to buy. I havent really had a chance to see how far this thing shoots accurately, I have read on some articles that the mini 14 wont shoot accurately after 100 yards. Any suggestions. Thanks

Something with low magnification. A Weaver K4 or the equivalent from Nikon, Burris or Bushnell. I liked my Mini fine until I put a 3x9 Leupold on it and discovered how inaccurate it was. Stick with a 4x or less.

They are NOT target rifles. 3 shots in 3" at 100yds is good for a Mini. After that the groups open up as the barrel heats up. Don't get me wrong I love Minis but they are not target rifles. I like to just use the open sights but if you must scope it I would go with a Weaver V3 1-3x20 (~$150).

A variable low power scope is a good choice for the Ruger Mini. Here's my Mini 30 with a Weaver 1x3 -

This is what I put on mine it kind of covered the full usefullness of the gun.

Valdada import several scopes that would be the cat's meow. Or Meopta.

I have been quite impressed with the durability and clarity of the IOR offerings.

I'm very happy with the Millet DMS-1. Got the sec gen for just under $220.
Great sight picture, rapid target acquisition and excellent reliability. it's a 1x4x24.

For my MINI-14, it's the Jose Oquendo of scopes--it does everything well enough, especially since 99% of my shots are under 250 yards.

I use a cheap Tasco 2-8x32mm scope on my Mini-14 and it works very well for me. At 3-4 MOA it's accurate enough for hunting and what-not. I've thought about upgrading the scope but it's held up for several years now so I really have no need to yet, but when/if it breaks I'll prolly go with a Weaver V3.

About any small 1 to 4X scope is good :D

Mine has a Simmons 4X32MM on it, but it just came with it and I haven't bothered changing it.

You MIGHT..be surprised with your mini ;) some shoot good.

Try loosening the barrel band screws about 1/4 to 1/2 turn (Maybe loc-tite to make sure they don't come out more). Really improves the accuracy. So far it's helped on four Mini's

Me AND dads get 1.5" with good softpoints (Not wolf), and my uncles go around 2.5" (iron sights though). So I'm sold on that procedure ;)
