I have a mother in law, wife and father in law that are all interested in taking their first hand gun course. I personally have never had any formal training with handguns, I do shoot regularly. I thought it would be great for all of us to go and take a course together so they are educated properly. I live in Ventura, CA. Could anyone recommend a program that would cover handling, cleaning, lots of practice shooting. Thanks in advance.

I wish I could help, you certainly have the right attitude.

But I do not know who to recommend in Ventura or environs. But you might check with the instructors working out of Winchester Canyon Gun Club in Santa Barbara: http://santabarbarashootingsports.com/instructors.aspx or see if Tacfire in Ventura has an acceptable course: http://www.tacfire.com/public_training.html

Good luck

Stick boy,
The above link is to a page on the NRA website that lets you search for training courses which interest you, to see if there are any offered in your area and when they are offered.

The Basic Pistol course in for beginners and has about 50 rounds of shooting minimum. (8 hour course)
The Personal Protection In The Home Course builds upon the Basic Pistol course and teaches you more and there is more shooting. (8 hour course)
The Personal Protection Outside The Home Course is the most advanced course offered by the NRA for the pistol. It is a two day course.
