Winchester M1895 barrel

I have a M1895 (rifle, not carbine) in .30 US (.30-40 Krag) with a badly pitted barrel. All else in excellent shape. The pitting also extends into the neck and forward portion of the shoulder in the chamber (is this from corrosive primers/powder of late 19th century?). Any suggestions on how/where to have this barrel replaced?

You can have the barrel replaced very easily. Call John Taylor at Taylor Machine at (253)445-4073 M-F 8:00AM-5:00PM. John has a lot of experience working on older Winchesters and has connections for hard-to-get parts (if needed), and does outstanding work in general.

Most likely.

Restoration & collector's issues aside, if you reload, you might consider having it rebored/rifled to the wildcat .35 Krag.

Wind River Rifle lists '95 barrels for $425 plus sights plus blue plus installation.

There was an outfit making reproduction barrels right down to a close copy of the Winchester markings, but I cannot find them today.

Cliff LaBounty is out of the reboring business, Clearwater bought his equipment and had him train their people.
