They say good things, good and bad, come in 3's.

The first good thing happened when I found this NIB 50th Anniversary .357 Blackhawk:

Now my problem was to find ammo for the beast? Good things #2 and #3 happened simultaneously today, May 5 2009, at Wal-Mart. Like most of you, I always go through the sporting goods department in the hopes of getting lucky. They had more, but here is what I bought:

I am not French, but, "Laissez les bon temps roulet"

Is the 38spl/357 mag #2 or #3? Then I can't figure out what the other number is?

These days, a picture like that might be considered to be **** because it brings out feelings of lust, greed, jealousy, and passion.

Told the wife we would go shooting this weekend for Mother's day. She said, "I hope you don't need ammo." She told me that the Wal-Mart she works at is out of most everything, especially .22lr.

I have 10k of .22lr so no problem. I stopped by and saw they have shotgun ammo in 12 and 20, and a few rifle calibers, .308, 30-06, 300WM, and some others, but very low or out of everything else.

I guess we will just shoot in the back yard and shoot .22 and some clays....

Like bad Chinese food, this too shall pass.

It's like winning the Lottery. I see you have some Fiocchi's (9mm) too, good stuff, and plenty of 22lr's.

Yeah, I like the Fiocchi 9mm, but I just learned that some of the 115gr FMJ has been recalled. Thank goodness none of my lot was among those. As far as the .22LR, Wal-Mart DOES have ammunition if you are just patient (and lucky!).

While the shortage may not really be over, I am glad to see that Wal-Mart's 6 box limit is apparently working.

I bought ten bricks of 22lr on the secondary market last night. Ammo shortage is over for me also:)
Not shooting any centerfire outside of competition until this cools down so that should last me into the fall.

um yeh. it would help if you gave us a link on where to buy online.

also can some one answer a question for me, I curretnly store my rounds and all related items in a very and I mean super cheep lock box and I am wondering that when I get to a point when I have 6 boxes of rounds, I currently have 1 for my .38 and 1 box of 22lr for my darrenger for a total of two boxes should I purchase a specialized amunition? SP? container? and if so can I get a link to more info on them if they exist.
Thanks

There's really no need to store ammo in a specialized container. The enemy is moisture. Ammo needs to be kept in a fairly dry environment and protected from large temperature swings that can cause condensation. If you store it indoors, no special storage procedures are usually needed, since the interiors of most modern homes are usually dry and climate-controlled. Security from unauthorized grabbing hands is usually the main consideration. My ammo is kept in an ordinary kitchen-style wall cabinet with a lock to keep the kids out.

Ammo that is stored in a non-climate-controlled environment, such as a shed or barn, needs to be kept in a container that's watertight and mostly airtight. Many shooters use U.S. military surplus steel ammo cans since they're durable and designed for the job; they have rubber gaskets to keep them sealed. These things used to be widely available for a song (a few dollars each), but another annoying side effect of the upsurge in ammo stockpiling is a regional shortage of military ammo cans. This has driven the price up, if you can find them at all. However, this is by no means the only way to do it. Ziploc freezer bags, coffee cans, Tupperware... anything that will hold out moisture is suitable.

Two caveats:

1) You actually don't want anything that's too strongly constructed and too airtight. It may turn into a bomb in the event of fire. You want something that will blow apart easily and relatively harmlessly. For this reason, you should never store ammo in a gun safe.

2) I strongly recommend against corrugated cardboard boxes, even indoors. They tend to wick up water in the event of a leak and hold it like a sponge. :(

drying crystals also help if you have high humidity. Save those little packages of the stuff in shoes and other items that have the little warning on them that say do not eat. They help to soak up any humidity or moisture in the air. Put one in the container you are storing in for good measure if need be.
