Hey all!
I would like to know the difference between these two models from colt. I own a Colt MK III Trooper and am looking for a holster with no much luck. It has a 6" barrel. I recently bought a Miami Classic Shoulder system from Galco and they sell a holster for the Colt Python 4".
What do you guys think and what really is the difference between a Colt Python and MK III Trooper?

I don't know about the holster fit. Galco might.
Otherwise, everything is different except the basic configuration of a .357 magnum revolver. There is no interchangeability of parts between a Mk III Trooper and a Python. (An original Trooper has a lot of commonality with Python.)

the mkIII is colt's j frame and the python is e/i frame. i don't think leather holsters would be interchangable but nylon would be.

I like the Bianchi line of holsters for general carry outdoors (non concealment). The 5BH is listed for the Python and King Cobra. The Trooper Mark III has the same frame as the King Cobra. It should work. Take a look at the product numbers and you will see the interchangability between different frames. http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/Prod.php?TxtModelID=5BH. The nylon one is quite good too. http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/Prod.php?TxtModelID=7000
Can I tell you in absolute terms it will fit perfectly. No. But I'm pretty sure it will as I have a belt holster I used for a 6" Python that I currently use for my 6" Trooper Mark III. The last ones I bought were from Cheaper Than Dirt. for a 5.5" Redhawk and 4" Smith Model 57 (both 5BH's). It is a great holster, but everyone has their preferences. I have a Bianchi leather shoulder holster that I bought for the 6" Python (like in 1981) that is lying around and I believe it will fit your Trooper as well. I could try it out for gun fit if you like. It looks brand new as I never used it. I just never liked all the straps. It looks like the shoulder holsters used in Dirty Harry.
Cheaper than Dirt has a "holster wizard" that may be helpful. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/HolsterSearchWizard.aspx

The proper holster for a Trooper Mark III is a King Cobra holster since the frames are the same.
Unless it's a high grade, custom fit holster, a Python holster will often do, but a custom fit may not fit properly due to the slight differences in the Python and Trooper frames.
Note especially the differences in depth of the Python and Mark III frames just in front of the trigger guards.
A higher end custom fit won't interchange that well.

the king cobra is a v frame, the trooper mkv is the same as king cobra/ anaconda but my trooper mkIII was way smaller than my v frame.

Well, not quite.
The Anaconda is the "MM" frame. It was Colt's large frame made for the .44 Magnum and is basically a giant Mark III/Mark V/King Cobra.
The Mark III is a "J" frame, the Mark V is a "V" frame, and the King Cobra was the "AA" frame.
The basic frame size and design is exactly the same for the "J" "V" and "AA".

I would say per jondar's photo, the shroud for the ejector and ventilated rib would make a difference. By the way I just love shooting my 6" Python. Safe queen:eek: to a degree and also shot!

Gunny,
What type of holster are you looking for? I "had" a 6" Trooper untill a break-in a while back. It was stolen, the Bianchi holster was left behind. It's in pretty good condition and I have nothing to put in it.
