my local range used to collect all the brass and sell it to scrap yards.

after many people(myself included) asking to pay to rummage thru the 55gal bbl of brass.

they finaly decided to separate the brass and bag it up to sell.

i gave the guy a hand moving the bbl, setting up a sorting table, and assembling tumblers.

i also bs'ing with him for about an hour helping sort brass.
i ended up getting:
500 9mm
200 .40
50 10mm
125 45/70
30 .44 mag
15 7mm mag
and
200 405gr cast .458 boolits.

all for $40

even more important, he is reserving a whole list of brass just for me!

its amazing what spending a little time helping out/bs'ing will get you!

Sorting through brass is something I have a blast doing. Would be even more fun with another gun nut to sit and chew the fat with.

A 55-gallon drum full of range pickups? I would quite honestly have a ball separating all that. Of course... if I couldn't keep any of it, I can't say that I would more than a bucket full, but it would still be an enjoyable time.

Saturday afternoons are my preferred range slot. The guys at the range know me, know that I reload and oftentimes point me in the direction of uncollected brass. In turn, I help them by retrieving target stands that others didn't bother to return, sweeping, etc. It's a two way street.

Sundays (sometimes Saturday nights) are NASCAR races. I do my sorting during the race. You can't beat killing two enjoyable birds at the same time!

my wife rags on my cuz as soon as we get home from the range I start cleaning my guns a sorting brass. Sometimes I think I enjoy cleaning the guns and sorting brass more than shooting.

Its always fun to see what you will find. Sometimes you find some unusual stuff.

I haven't sorted tons, but I 've only found 1 9x18 mavkrov (sp?)

Very few 357

I remember being a newbie at it and finding my first pile of 38special.
