The manual says nothing about taking the trigger group out to clean. I see it's held in there by 2 pins. If i pop out the pins, will the group come out? I would like to give it a good hose down and lube it correctly. Will all sorts of springs and pins pop out if I take the group out?

Yup---just those 2 pins holding it in.

yep, pop the pins out with a golf tee and it slides right out. keep the safety on and don't pull the trigger.

f memory serves me right when you put it back in the hammer must be down

When the trigger plate is out of an 870, the hammer should be left cocked and the safety ON. Pulling the trigger when the hammer is not stopped by the firing pin/bolt body might result in damage or unintended disassembly...
