View Full Version : remington 870 - tight magazine cap

I recently purchased a Remington 870 Synthetic, 18" barrel. I was going to clean it and shoot it for the first time. The magazine cap should just hand tighten/untighten, it seems the factory tightened it real tight! What is the best way to get this loosened without doing any damage?

strap wrench, or take it back to the store you bought it from if they do gunsmithing and they should take it off

If no strap wrench, a thick leather belt around the nut and clamp the leather where it comes together with pliers/vise grip and it will serve as a make shift strap wrench...

Also, have you tried loosening it with the action half way back? Also with the action back half way, try tapping on the end of the barrel with the stock on the ground with your hand before trying to loosen the nut.
Otherwise, ya...get a strap wrench.

I find if I just stand the gun up, grab the barrel, and push down real hard while trying to turn the nut it really helps. I don't usually bother to open the action first, but that sounds like a good idea.
