View Full Version : S&W Model 1000

I was given a S&W Model 1000 auto shotgun with a 30" vent rib barrel. Everything works fine, except the action does not cycle back far enough to eject the spent round when fired. Works manually just fine. The cycle is so short, it does not even start to pick up the round in the tube. I have cleaned all the piston parts and made sure the port is clear into the barrel. Everything appears good. But no change. Any ideas?

The Model 1000 is known to wear out the "O" rings in the gas system, causing operation problems.
The gun was actually made in Japan by Howa, and was sold by both S&W and Mossberg, both as the Model 1000.
Gun Parts carry many parts under both brands. You can try them for parts, and at Havlin Sales who sells older Mossberg parts:
If they can't help, check online for companies who sell heat resistant "O" rings.

The "O" rings were replaced by the guy who gave it to me. They look very good, at least to me and I was a professional mechanic for a long, long time. Maybe I better just change them again to be on the safe side.
