I just read a note that Ruger was coming out with an old style flat-top in .44 special caliber. It's the size of the older single actions and holds six rounds. Anyone have info on this?

There is a review of it on Gun Blast and it is based on the 50th anniversary 357. Go to www.GunBlast.com for the review.
I have one on order and I believe Ruger is only making so many a quarter.

Yep, based on the 50th anniversary .357 Blackhawk platform. Six shot, .44Spl. They're making 1000 each of 4 5/8" and 5½" barrel lengths, shipping 250 each per quarter. Only available from Lipsey's. Get in line if you want one, they're selling fast. It's the sixgun shooters have been begging for for 54yrs!

What's the price on one of these?

Think most guys are getting a street price of $450-$470. Not bad at all.

That's what I love about Ruger, if that was S&W it'd probably be $1200.

Looks like one hell of a good gun, too. Dayum.

That may be true, but if it were a Smith it wouldn't get recalled a week after you bought it!

Heck, recalls don't bother me. My LCP recall didn't cost me a dime, plus I got a free mag. and hat out of the deal. :)

Is that unlike the S&W I-bolt rifle?

My last Ruger hat cost me just under $500, which I thought was a little steep.

I shouldn't complain though, it came with a free Redhawk!:D

The new ruger LCR .38 hasnt been recalled yet , and when you try and put out as many new or updated guns in short period they are just trying too hard to meet what they think consumers want in thier guns. I'll just agree QC should have been better. As all gunmakers have responsibility to produce the best and safest guns for us.( Just 1 google search has 4)

A lot of talk about this over the past six weeks on -- www.rugerforum.com (http://www.rugerforum.com) in a whole variety of threads. Bout time Ruger - now make it a regular production run and add the New Vaquero (which is all ready, frame wise)

Wait...Ruger has had some recalls, yeah, but they took care of them on their dime and quickly.

This gun on the other hand is based on well-proven tech. It's just a caliber conversion from the 50th 357 Blackhawk, and uses basically NewVaq parts. All of the mid-frames have been gems except for, yes, a recall on a minor point for the first batch of NewVaqs below SN5000ish back in '05.

Most of the Ruger recalls seem to involve minor issues that other companies would likely ignore. Ruger is VERY lawsuit-shy. Other than these admittedly annoying recalls, Ruger QC has been very strong of late.

Let me put it another way: I can think of half a dozen Taurus models that have failed often enough (Gaucho, Judge, others) that if they'd have been Rugers, they would have been recalled.

I will never buy a Taurus. I trust my life daily to a Ruger. I have good reason for both stances.

I will admit, I've been waiting for this Ruger ever since I first heard about it. It is a proven design, true enough. My concern is that I have had several Blackhawks bought within the last four years, and every single one has had some serious QC issue.
I would like to get one of these new .44 specials very much. I hope that Ruger is smart enough to see how many of us would really like one, and will make it a regular production item.:) Talk about a handy trail gun!!:D

back in the '60s, ruger had a habit of announcing new guns about a year before they were actually available. One kid in Jr High claimed he already had a Ruger Deer Stalker carbine and had already shot a buzzard with it a year before the first one shipped. Kid lied a lot.
