Is there any other caliber brass out there that can be cut down and sized to 40-60? I came across a very nice Chaparral 40-60 the other day that was priced down to 750. But I've heard that 40-60 is very difficult to find and when one does it is about a buck a piece for brass at best

.40-60 what?

.40-60 Maynard?

.40-60 Winchester?

.40-60 Marlin?

The first can be made from .303 British brass, the last two can be made simply by resizing .45-70 brass and trimming.

I tried a search on "chapparal 40-60" and came up with a Win 76 clone in 45-60.So, assuming no typo,it is likely a 40-60 Win.

Buffalo Arms has loaded ammo ,brass, dies, etc in the catalogue. They are on the web. They also list dies.

If you can find a copy of cartridges of the world, they will have dimensions for the case.I saw a picture of a case and it looks like a 2 in version of the 40-65.

Is your Chapparal a Cimarron? It would seem to me they would give good info on what ammo their rifle needs if you contact them.

40 cal rifles use bullets from .403 ,.406,408,410,411,it is rather important to have the correct size, both to select bullets and get proper dies.

I think the 76 uses the toggle link lockup,so you don't want to hot rod.Black powder,or black powder pressures.
