Has anyone seen a long wait on recent app for their C&R? I sent mine in on Sept 4 still nothing, I've tried calling them 2 times, on the first try I was on hold for 30 min. before giving up, second try I gave them just short of an hour! I've got a clean record so i know that cant be a problem. I have looked over my copy of the app several times to see if I messed something up. Just wondering if anyone else has had this, because everything I've seen before people were getting a 2 month turn around. Go figure as soon as I try there is problems, always my luck:rolleyes:

Fortunately, if you make a mistake on your app or leave something out, they'll return it to you highlighting the error. As a private collector, I didn't understand what they wanted in the 'Place of Business' field - they sent it back telling me exactly what to put in.

I imagine with the holidays and the panic-buying going that the BATFE is merely swamped.

As I've stated here before, in October of this year it only took 19 days mailbox to mailbox to receive mine.

Your geographical location could possibly be a factor. Don't lose hope; it will arrive one day.

Meanwhile, address envelopes to all the suppliers and dealers so that you'll be ready when it does arrive.

I sent mine in on Oct 26 and just got it in the mail yesterday. I had called them last week and they called me back and said it was approved and would be sent out. So it was about 6 weeks. :D

I sent in the paperwork to change the address on mine around the beginning of OCT and havent gotten the amended license yet. Last time I moved and had to do this, I got it in like 10 days (about the same time it took to get my original when I had applied also).

I suspect with all the "panic" buying, plus holiday buying, plus the fact they moved thier licensing center office in Oct., that things a gonna be unusually backlogged with the BATFE for a while.

I mailed my application out on Sept. 2nd. I emailed them a couple weeks ago inquiring about the status and got a quick reply from a customer service person that if my credit card had not been charged yet, to request another application. It sounded lame, but I did request another application which has yet to come in. I wonder if my local sheriff's office needs to "clear" me and they have not done so yet. Our county budget is a mess and I suspect something like this would sit on a desk at the sheriff's office until there was nothing better to do one day.

Bottom line, submitted 9/2/08.... nothing yet.

The copy of your App. is simply to inform your CLEO. Does not affect your wait time. The copy is provided to them for info only.

The CLEO would have to 'take action' to stop your approval, otherwise he or she just gets a copy of your application, they do not approve or disapprove.

I suspect that most find their way to 'file 13'

how long does it take to get applications? been waiting about 5 days. why can't they make the application via pdf file? that would save on postage.

jsmaye,

do you mind telling us what they wanted you to put in under "place of business"? I know I will have that same question.

why isn't there a quote link. does anyone know how to quote a poster?

They told me to just put my home address - this was really meant to be a "place of collection" field.

To create a quote, highlight the text and click on the word balloon icon in the box, the one between the 'Insert image' icon (mountains on yellow background) and the 'Wrap' icon (pound sign).

Well I waited a little longer then I decided to call the ATF last Monday and they told me that the issued my license on Oct 30:eek:. After telling the not so nice lady on the phone that I never recieved it, she told me they would send me a replacement:mad:. I never even got the information packet. Is there anything in there that I need to have, like the approved list or the laws pertaining to the C&R?

Man this is very frustrating, now Im waiting on the replacement!

Ontay- at least they acknowledged that you applied, were issued a license and are willing to replace it. I'm back to square one. They have no record of receiving my application back in September and I'm still waiting for another application from them to apply again.

The strangest thing to me is those who claim they got their license in 2 weeks..or less...?? At least be consistant!

I hope this is not an indication of whats in store for me. still waiting on applications. I ordered again and will see what happens. nothing more frustrating than waiting on the govt to get it together. wait till the new prez gets his hands in it all.

Just like like military intellegence, or Jumbo Shrimp. A contradiction in terms!

I feel for ya'll I filled out my paperwork and sent it in August. Received it in September, about 5 weeks door to door.

The wait times ya'll are going through are ridiculous.

I'm not gloating, I find it unacceptable. I am still waiting patiently for my CHL, I started that process this summer. I may see it b4 the end of the year.

ATF "forgot" to send me my FFL renewal during the Clinton administraton, but they conveniently "remembered" to send a demand for my records. When I explained I needed a renewal, I got an application for an FFL! They then told me that the only way I could renew was to apply for a new license. I sent them the books, and said good riddance!

January 9, 2009, 07:08 AM
Was this for an 01 or an 03 FFL? I didn't think you had to send your records to them when you stop your C&R!!!

ATFE is swamped. They are dealing with many times their normal workflow. THey can't even keep delivery of 4473s up to demand. FFLs were all faxed a note saying they could photo copy the form a few days ago. Give them some time.

Jeffenwulf
January 9, 2009, 01:14 PM
Yeah, the 4473 thing got my attention. They can't even issue enough forms now to keep up with demand! Since it's a government office, once it starts to get overloaded, everything grinds to a halt. Look on the bright side, by the time it shows up the new gun you have your eye on today will qualify for C&R!

I had an 03 CR from 2002 till around 2005, let it expire. Did not have to show any records on purchases. I requested new application for new CR, recieved it in about 30 days. Just sent it in today. As soon as I recieve the new license Im gonna get a new bound book just in case, cause this time Im buying more than just a couple of rifles.

for those of you still waiting on mail delivery of form 7 or 7cr do yourself a favor and find the nearest office to your house. I gave up on the mail and did just that. turns out there was an office on my way home so I picked up all the forms I had been waiting on this afternoon. they told me I should have it back in 30 days. of course they probably tell everyone that but they were at least friendly and helpful. so my advice is just that for those needing applications. use the website for informational purposes only.

...I received my second application in the mail last night. I requested it before xmas.

At this point, I'm going to send out another application and see if that one makes it to the point of issuing me a llicense. My first attempt was in September '08. No one has any record of my application being processed at BATF. I'm thinking about sending it registered mail so at least I'll have proof that it made it there.

Ontay- don't feel alone! Good luck.

ohntay, keep us posted. I really feel for you. I completed the application and will be sending it out tomorrow along with a copy to my cleo. I called the atlanta office for a few questions and asked about the turnaround time. was told it's now about 60 days due to this time of year. asked if it had anything to do with the present political situation and was told no, just this time of year, no changes at this point. but then again, thats what she told me. if i don't hear anything in 30 days will call them and check up on the status. ...... in a related event just got off of SOG's site and hope that license comes quickly so I can get on their mailing list.

Their probably too busy coming up with new and improved gun laws for Nobama. Id think he has better things to do at the moment than incooperate stricter laws. Hes even proposed a law to ban anything that you can shoot more than once without working a bolt or lever. And yes thats auto 22s as well, all the way down to pellet guns.

I left a message with my phone number, polightly asking him to return my call. Anyone care to guess................ yep still waighting! I understand that they are backed up but how long do I have to wait?

I just got my application returned with a nice letter informing me that my credit card was declined and I would now have to resubmit with a cashiers check or money order. If I had any questions to call her. Problem is the charge was authorized and the charge to my account was over a month ago. I called Capital One and they had no clue, no charge back or refund. I called the ATF number and have yet to talk to a person or have my call returned.
Monday at 13:00 I will call on the hour any ATF number I can find to register a complaint. I will call till they're sick of my calls and want to get rid of me. At least 20 years in the Army taught me something; how to deal with bureaucracies.

January 30, 2009, 11:26 AM
thanks for the heads up. I noticed my card was charged last week but I see where that is not a sign that you will be approved. seems the govt takes your money first then decides later if they will follow through on the paid for services. very unfair way of doing business but this is what we have to look forward to as government continues I guess to grow to huge proportions. back to your situation if you can't get it cleared up over the phone then I know you will have the credit card company re-credit you since they clearly have not delivered on their end of the deal. with that I would not take their advise, in fact I would recommend never sending any payment to the ATF other than a credit card. as it is you should not have any problem getting your money back and starting over if that's what you have to do. what a shame.

I finally got thru to a superior on Thurs. she did some investigating, and got back with me. She said she didn't understand what happened but when she called back she said she has my license in hand and would be sending it out Certified emediatly! Hopefully this turns out good:rolleyes: at the moment I'm not getting my hopes up tho!

Another thing she told me is I would have to look up all the other information that comes in the welcome packet myself because her office didn't handle that, and she didn't know who did. That would be fine with me except I don't know whats in the Information Packet they send out because I didn't get it!

Don't feel bad, I also have been waiting and can't even get anyone on the phone. THEY got my app. on Sept. the 3rd '08 (registered mail). They cashed my check and NOTHING.

Did someone say they had email, that might be the way to go for me. I don't have the time to call during the day at work and be put on hold for over 30 minutes.

By the time I get home, their offices are closing in 20 minutes.

I sent them the books, and said good riddance! That's likely exactly what they wanted you to do. I've talked to several FFLs who finally gave up their licenses in frustration during the Clinton years as a result of harrassment or other issues with the BATF, and they were the rule, not the exception.

According to one source the number of FFL holders dropped from 287000 in 1993 to 86180 in 1999. In other words, for every 1 FFL holder who stuck it out there were 2 that gave up and turned in their books.

ATF called me back today. Apollogized for the mistake as there was a disconnect in the system. Told me I was approved and would be getting my packet in 7 to 10 days. Too bad, I really wanted to make the RIA auction this weekend. There's a luger and a FN 1922 I was interested in. Oh well,,,,,:(

Come on - these people don't change just because the Administration does. They're not appointed by the current President - most of them are just career 9-to-5'ers like the rest of us.

Come on - these people don't change just because the Administration does.I realize that a change of administration doesn't reach down to the "worker bee" level in terms of personnel changes and I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

However the direction of these people can (and often does) change when the administration changes. To say otherwise is to make the clearly ridiculous claim that the Attorney General (the chief law enforcement officer of the Federal government) has no effect on federal law enforcement.

As far as whether or not there was change in direction during the Clinton years, I believe the numbers speak for themselves. The number of FFL holders was reduced by a factor of 3 during that administration. That is definitely not the norm.

If I recall correctly, the BATFE National Licensing Center was recently moved from Atlanta,Ga to a new location. As I submitted the form to change my address on my FFL03 prior to moving a few months ago, and still have not gotten the new license yet.

I am going to fill out and send a new one, as I suspect it vanished in the move (I sent it in right around the time they were moving locations, and sent it to the Atlanta address).

Does anyone know the mailing address for the new location of the Licensing Center? I cant seem to find anything but the old Atlanta one anywhere on the BATFE website.

Thanks.

ETA: I sent them an email for the new address, so if I get it before anyone here responds, I'll post it up for others in case they need it too.

Alright, I'm getting my C&R license, I have decided. They're only like, 30 bucks a year right? If I call my Texas office (I'll have to see which one, Dallas or Houston) and ask them to send me the form, they'll mail it to me, right? FWIW, the BATFE NLC responded to my email monday morning, and said that they had mailed my amended FFL03 on DEC 11th, and since I didnt get it, they will promptly mail another one to me. I'm happy they didnt loose the form, and I dont have to resubmit and wait, and that they are sending one out, but it creeps me out a little wondering what happened to the one they sent out (IE: what stranger may have an unsigned copy of my license.I know that it's unlikely it could be of use to anyone, but still creepy).Of course, thats assuming it ACTUALLY got sent out, as opposed to marked as sent, or supposed to be sent, but never really was (seems a real possibility).

Also, they didnt give me the new mailing address for the Licensing Center (if I'm even right, and there IS a new one.), so I dont have it to include for others like I was hoping. sorry.
