I am a newbie on reloading. Recently set up to reload 45 colt. Was taken back by the fact that I could easily double load the cartridge and not readily notice it. I am using Hogden Titegroup. Anyone know of a bulkier powder that fill up the case.
Thanks in advance.

Unique or Red Dot. (there's also Trail Boss that's extra, extra bulky, or good old black powder)

Unique is widely used, 8.0 gr is hard to beat. I like it.

Some good advice I learned 30 yrs. ago when I started-ALWAYS visually inspect all of your charged cases before you seat the first bullet. I made that a habit and I've caught double charged cases several times in the past. Also never let anyone or thing distract you while loading.

Trail boss works well for me. You can still double charge it, but you wouldn't be able to seat a bullet if you did.

That's good advice, but you could still get in trouble with Titegroup in a .45 Colt case. The case is that big, and the amount of powder is that small. You might not be able to tell the difference between a normal charge and a double.

IMR Trail Boss is the answer. It's a bulky powder, and fills the large cases such as as 45C so that a double-charge will overflow.
As a side benefit, it's economical to load.
