A buddy of mine just gave me a bunch of Remington Golden Saber 9mm 124 gr JHP bullets.

I have been reloading for 30 plus years so I am not a newby at this lol

Can anyone suggest a good recipe for running these through my H&K USP Compact?

Thanks

Factory Remington 9mm 124 Golden Sabers overall length is 1.120-1.125" (varies because of the irregular hollow point tip). I've only loaded them with Unique powder and CCI 500 primers and in various case brands, mostly Winchester. I've only shot them in a Glock 19 4.02" barrel and in a Kel-Tec carbine 16".
4.8 grains of Unique with the 124 GS gives velocities just below 1000 fps.
5.1 grains of Unique gets velocity slightly above 1050 fps in the pistol.
4.8 is very mild but will reliably cycle the G19 and Kel-Tec. 5.1 shows no pressure signs and is accurate and shoots to point of aim in the G19. I've read where others load up to 5.5 grains of Unique but I have not gone that high myself. 5.1 grains in the 16" barrel gives approx. 1240-1250 fps.
Remington advertises that standard factory 124 GS's have 1125 fps at the muzzle. Rem 9mm GS +P velocity says 1180 fps at the muzzle. (tested in a 4" barrel)
Load to the above lengths and very lightly taper crimp to remove any mouth bell, just to lightly touch the smaller diameter of the bullet. They shoot very well for me.
This site has someone's data for 124 GS's just for comparison. NOTE that the data shows velocity in the PLUS P or HIGHER range. http://www.realguns.com/loads/9mm.htm

Check out the powder company web sites and once you decide on a powder go with their data.
Many good powders for 9mm.

HS6
Power Pistol
Silhouette
3N37
N350
(WAP; discontinued in 1998)

All of these deliver high velolcity, accuracy, and are reliable through powder measures.

N350, Silhouette, WAP, and 3N37 have the lowest flash signature.

I can attest to the quality of 9mm loads useing Power Pistol. much better than Bullseye although BE seems slightly better when loading cast slugs.

I had really good luck with Titegroup, AA#5, and AA#7 in 9mm, when I still had a 9mm.

My gun dealer just happened to have a 1K bulk pak of these little beauties. Picked them up and started to experiment with them.

The Golden Saber has a drive band. That is, the bottom of the bullet is larger than the body. You may find that you will have bell the mouth a bit more than for regular 9mm bullets. Load them to just where the case mouth completely covers the band, but no deeper. On my equipment, that puts the O.A.L. at 1.140". As said, lightly taper crimp to just take the bell out of the case mouth.

I have found that using 6.6gr of HS-6 to be an exceptional load in both my Keltec P-11 and Ruger P-89DC.

Load range from Hodgdon (125gr SIE JHP) is 6.4gr to 6.8 of HS-6 while Lyman's 3rd Pistol has 5.8gr to 6.6gr. I started at 6.0gr and worked up in .2gr increments.

Because the bullet is not seated as deep as most 9mm bullets, the actual pressure is somewhat less than published data. I settled on the 6.6gr load as the groups were tight and the felt recoil was actually fairly mild in the P-11.

I did work up some loads using HP38/W231, but they didn't seem to group as well as the HS-6 powder. FYI, the best load I had with this powder was 4.2gr. in the P-11 and 4.4gr in the P89.

I'm using 5.5 Grs Unique under the 124 GS. OAL is 1.130. They shoot good enough at 25 yds that you can cover the group with a quarter. A bullet recovered from water looks picture perfect shot at 15 yds. I'm using this load in a Baby Eagle semi compact, a Beretta FS, and a Witness. I haven't tried them in any of the High Powers yet.
