Quick question, Will a J frame holster fit a Ruger SP101? If not what frame type will?

The inexpensive little nylon holsters are forgiving enough, yes.

Nicer kydex or leather form-fit holsters, not so much.

I've got a cheapie nylon one that fits both my Smith 642 and my Ruger SP-101 3", but that's because it has an open bottom for the longer Ruger barrel to stick out.

My Comp-Tac CTAC inner waist band holster for my 3" Ruger will sort-of fit my 642, but it is loose in it. I'd worry about it rattling or falling out. The grip-retention of the holster is designed for the Ruger frame.

My pocket holster for my 642 will absolutely not fit my SP-101.

Thanks for the answer. I'll be getting a 2 1/4" SP101 soon. Kinda looking out for a cheap holster and was wondering what all models to look at.

This is the Bianchi Accumold thumbsnap holster for the 2.25" SP101. It costs $25.00 at cheaperthandirt.com and is the nicest nylon holster I have tried yet.

I've been using a Bianchi 7/7L for my 3" SP101. It works fairly well and is made for the gun. Wish the inside face was flat though, kinda digs into my side somewhat.

I went with the Fobus Holster for my 3" SP101. I have the belt version not the paddle. John

I carry my 2 1/4 inch SP101 in a Bianchi Minimalist 105. Fits great and I don't eve no it's there. even when Driving. Leather and has a small loop over the hammer to keep it in place for about $45

I saw those John. I've had fobus for auto's but not a revolver. How do you like it. I've looked at some of the Bianchi line. I kinda like what I see.

I like it fine; it just rides lower than the Galco matrix m7 I use when I carry my RIA Officers. I like the tension screw that allows you some adjustment.

It's been over five months now since I ordered my 3" SP101 .327 Fed Mag.

It will be my carry gun once it finally (if ever) gets here.

I've been scouring the tubes for a nice, classy leather holster for it, but it seems that the usual suspects only make nice holsters for the 2" version of the SP101.

Can anyone point me to a few good leather holsters for the 3" SP101, preferably in dark brown or black leather?

Quality, durability, retainability (of the gun) and classy looks are all important parts of the equation.

That is the single best answer I've read on this forum!
1) This is what I've got (included pictures)
2) This is where I got it (included most of the link)
3) This is how much it cost
4) I like mine.

PERFECT! Not being factitious here either - I really like people with accurate and specific answers. THANKS! :D

I had a Bianchi thumb reak for the 3" S&W j frame that carried a Ruger Sp-101 perfectly. So yes most j frame holsters can be used for ruger SP-101s but may be a little tight to begin with.

Another vote for simly rugged.

I've got one of their holsters for my 4" Redhawk... I don't have one for my SP 3", but I would order from Rob first if I ever needed another sub-4" revolver holster in the future. His design is excellent, and his customer service is even better.
