Hey, fellers. I needed some opinions about what you think. I am definitely sold on the Ruger Gp 100 in 6 in. blue with full underlug, but had would like some thoughts in prices. I went to a nearby gun/pawn shop and the guy had one in what looked like almost new condition; bluing was almost perfect for $410. I am also considering one somewhere else, for $300. I asked the person who is selling it how much bluing it has left and how many rounds have been fired. He/She said bluing about 80% and less than 40 rounds fired from it...which leads me to believe that there was a previous owner aside from him or her. What are ya'lls thoughts.

I would check them both out and pick the one in the best shape. You get what you pay for most of the time. :)

If I were buying a woods gun, I'd buy the cheaper of the two. GP100's are built like tanks, so I wouldn't be too worried about the previous owner killing it, and it's going to get scratched anyhow, so save the 100 bucks for ammo.

Go look at the cheaper one or ask for pics to be sent to you then decide.

For the difference in price, I'd most likely go with the $400 one. Might be nothing wrong with the $300 one, but I prefer to wear out the gun myself. Either way, I'd at least go look at the $300 version.

Thank for you opinions and suggestions. The gun I previously mentioned is actually on gunbroker.com. Here is the link for the pictures, maybe that would give a better idea. Just by looking at the pics, I don't believe I would go more than $350.

Auction ends PDQ.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. Holy carp, ain't ammo getting freakin' outrageous???!!!! I was gonna buy a brick of .22 for plinking at Wally-World...now at almost 14 bucks. Granted, it's not gonna stop me from shooting entirely, but sorta hits ya where it hurts, don't it?

Just talked to my dad and he had an idea i never even thought of. I have an old compound bow I don't shoot anymore. I wonder if he would give me a decent trade-in for it. Maybe knock off 50-100 bucks. However, the price of the gun goes up about 20-30 dollars for a trade in, nonetheless unknowing if he would accept the bow as an exchange. $410 for straight up cash/about $430 for an exchange: something else to reconsider.

The one for $410.00 sounds like a safer deal.

If your are still concerned over used model, consider this: buy new for ~ $400, over the life of the gun ( Rugers last for ever), it will cost you $3-$5 dollars a year for piece of mind. Not a bad way to approach it, especially since $400 for a new GP100 sounds very reasonable. Dave

I went ahead with the newer gun. I got a few accessories like a new orange Millett sight and holster a bit less to go along with it. Haven't shot it yet, but got 100 rnds of .38 ammo to start with. Thanks for everybody's help and consideration! Peace.
