Your Marshal is a rare model. Something like 2500 made. In fact they are so rare most people have never even heard of them. I can't find a year of manufacture though someone more knowledgable might. The last information I saw indicated they were going for somewhere between $800 to $1,000 for one in the condition you describe. But Colt prices are highly volatile right now. As usual: "Your results may vary!"

In R.L. Wilson's book, Colt-An American Legend, he mentions the Marshal as being an Official Police variant, made between 1954 and 1956. Serial numbers were in the OP range, from 833352 to 845317. Barrel lengths were 2" and 4", with the chief difference being that the Marshal featured a rounded butt frame.

The serial # website I accessed from this forum indicates 1957 for a 838xxx # and the gun I handled had a 4" barrel but I seem to remember a square butt. I think I'll see what I can google...Thanks for the info by the way.

hey bad, the term is couldn't care less. If you could care less that means you care some, but if you couldn't care less then you care not at all. I know, you could care less.

Salvadore,
Hope the site helped.

Long story behind the sig line. Short version - when the comment was made, (not by me BTW), the ensuing discussion was "spirited" to say the least. I use it as a reminder that for some folks, perception is truth however inconvenient the facts may be.:)
