I have 2 buckshot questions.

1) How much velocity is lost from the muzzle to 25 yards using buckshot?

2) If you can get a slug to 1600 fps, why do they not make buckshot 1600 fps?

Im note sure if this helps, Hornady makes buckshot that reaches 1500 +- FPS. Look into the Hornady TAP ammo line. Its good stuff.:D And you might want to take a look at the baseline data at the begining of this forum page. LOTS of great info posted there on ammo ballistics and performance.

Out of my new Browning Citori GTS (28 in barrels) a Federal 2 3/4 inch 8 pellet round clocked 1231 fps and a 3 inch Mag 15 pellet round clocked 1126 fps. Of interest to fellow turkey hunters out there, a 3 inch #6 2 oz turkey load clocked in at only 1033 fps and was by far the most brutal in regards to recoil. I was suprised at how slow the turkey load was but 2 ozs in a lot of shot.

I have no idea how much it slows down to at 25 yards and I doubt there is a chonograph that would survive that test.

I dunno about the velocity loss, but i DO know that if you drive buckshot too fast you'll get wide, erratic patterns.

Cabela's is selling Winchester Military-Grade 00 buck (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=J2GKHHZKBG0LZLAQBBLCCOFMCAEFAIWE?id=0016697216572a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=0350202&cm_ite=0016697216572a&_requestid=56819) that's doing a claimed 1450 FPS - that should tickle your fancy
