I had the urge to purchase a shotgun, for home defense only-- I do noy hunt at all.

I was told to look for a remington 870.

Today I saw and purchased a remington 870 police magnum, in 12 ga. It appears to be in really good shape-- a few scratches and dings on the wood stock, and a scuff or two on the 20 in. barrel-- but nothing at all that is bad. I know very little about shotguns, but was told that the barrel is very clean and the gun is in great shape.

I paid 225.00. Is that a good price? Anything specific that I need to look for or be aware of?

Are these really good guns? I know handguns but I guess I made an imopuls purchase. I do trust the shop-- it is labeled as a state [police trade in.

I checked with remington and was told that it was mfg. in 1999.
and shipped with an IC barrel-- whatever that is and a R-3 pad

Thanks for the input.

The 870P Police gun is the worlds best pump gun.
These are built in a special high-security area of the plant, and are assembled from hand inspected parts to insure total reliability.

The gun has a service life of something over 250,000 rounds. (That's 1/4 of a million rounds).

The R3 recoil pad is made for Remington by Limbsaver.
It's one of the most effective recoil pads made, and Remington says they cut felt recoil by as much as 30%.

The price is very good since the dealer prices on the Police guns start at around $500.00 and UP.
In short, you got the strongest, most durable, highest quality police pump gun made at a discount price.

You nearly stole it at that price.

Enjoy the great deal, and the best pump-action shotgun on the market.
