Ok, I picked up myself my deer shot gun for next year.
Mossberg 500a with a slug barrel & scope for $175...
Anything special I should know about this shotgun besides which end to keep pointed at the deer?
(I have never owned a shotgun before...)

If you have never owned a shotgun, then I'm pretty safe in assuming you are unfamiliar with shooting slugs. Practice. Practice, Practice.

As an ethical hunter, you owe it to your quary to be absolutely positive you can hit what you are aiming at and get a clean kill.

Great gun and a great price. Practice and practice and you'll be fine. You've got plenty of time to get used to it before deer season.

I've had one for years. Performs well with number 1 buckshot. Safe hunting : )

Yes I do intend to practice with the gun.
After all, if you can't place the shot where you want it you should not shoot.

If I was you, I'd learn how to break it down & reassemble it. The 500 is an easy gun to figure out & you can do most of it by hand after the trigger housing pin is punched out. Do a Google search and find that guy on You Tube with a short "how-to" video on the 500. You'll be an expert on it in no time...
