Nice choice. Everything you NEED in a shotgun.

I own one and it''s nice. 12 g with 7 shell's. Now I have not added any accesories but I've been looking at the retractable butt with a pistol grip. Shoots true. Other I have is a winchester 1300 in a 20 g. Only thing is it's only holding 4, which is why I choose Mossi, myself. good choice.

UMMMM... You ain't bought it yet?
Seriously as previuosly stated, that is all you NEED in scattergun! I prefer the 20 gauge. I bought it in hopes the wife would also grab it up if I wasn't home but she is kinda sorry and would rather herself and my 2 kids be victim... We are fightin' a bit and she can pound sand! I prefer the 20 as I feel happy poppin' birds to feed to junior's snake. I poke it out the door and drop 'em... same as I would an intruder...

If the Mossberg is anything like my Maverick (which it is :D), I'd say it's a great gun!

I have the 7+1 (8 shot) model with the 20" barrel, 12ga. Only "mod" was I added a buttstock shell holder (uncle mikes).

Shot about 20 rounds of birdshot through it so far, and I'm more than happy with it :)

I've had mine for about a year now and I couldn't be happier. When my brother saw it, he went out and bought one just like it. I think it's about the best value on an all around shotgun to be had. This is my 500 with the 18.5" barrel. I haven't really used the 28" barrel much yet.

The local Big5 has it on sale for 250. I might get it as birthday gift for myself, but I'm also looking for it to be a HD for my wife & kids. She's not too comfortable shooting my glock.

Thanks for all the feed back. I'll post pics ASAP.

While I'm a dyed in the wool fan of the Remington 870, I will say that the 500 is a great shotgun. I own one and an 835 (basically a 500 on steroids).

If you are looking for a nice upgrade to your 500 after you get it. Take a look at the Heavy Wall Accuchoke 18.5" barrels on Havlinsales.com. For 69.99 plus shipping you get a short barrel that takes interchangeable chokes. Very nice for HD and makes a handy woods gun too. You could sell your cyl bore barrel and make up the difference and end up with an even more versatile combo.

I would steer clear of anything Mossberg. I work for an FFL and we have a lot of customers return their brand new Mossbergs with defects in them. I actually had one returned today that couldn't shoot off a single round and the customer missed out on 18 days of duck season.

I have a Maverick 88 and although it is ultra cheap, I never had a problem with it, well so far lol.....

spend the extra dough and get the 590

For HD and hunting it'd be fine. For clay sports I'd go with something a little stronger like the Wing master or BPS if I was going to go with a pump.
