Can I safely shoot Winchester Double X Magnum (2-3/4", 1-1/2 oz Copper Plated BB shot) in a pre-1964 Winchester Model 12 without concern for harming either the shotgun or myself? I seem to recall shooting standard length magnums out of this Model 12 in days way bygone, but wonder about the more modern Double X with Copper-Plated shot.

Am I correct in assuming the shot is lead? Will definitely avoid steel.
Thanks for your expert opinions.

I wouldn't be afraid to shoot magnums in it. I would stay away from steel if it has more choke that improved cylinder.

It should clearly state on the box or cartridge if it's steel shot.
