I was wondering where i could purchase steel plates or poppers to use for reactive target practice.

If there is no easy way to get them, what would be a good thickness of mild steel to cut to use instead? (the most powerful round id use would be 30-06 soft points)

Our club has a welder build them for us. The pistol plates can not handle the riffle rounds, so we have different steel on the riffle range. I'm not sure about what kind of steel or how thick.

3/8" AR500 for the rifle targets is the ticket they will withstand up to 300 win mag (a 30-06 will shoot through 1/2" mild steel). I get all of my AR500 from http://handgunsports.com/; Jerry's prices are far below most others. For non-magnum pistol targets 3/8" mild steel will work. You can google "steel targets" and find many other outlets.

the link in jmorris's note will work if you take the ; off the end.
