I am looking at a new scope for my 870. I have it narrowed down to a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 for $129.95, or..

...a Simmons Prodiamond 1.5-5x32 for $99.99 or $119.99 if I get the illuminated reticle.

Any thoughts?

I have little experience with scopes, but these are in my budget.

By the way, is 3.75" of eye relief enough for a shotgun with slugs??? That's what the Simmons advertises. They are both advertised as shotgun scopes...

I've got the Simmons ProDiamond with the light up reticle on my Mossy 500. Taken whitetail with it up to around 125 yards.

That's the one I'm looking at. How long have you had it? Is the eye relief long enough for someone with glasses? Do you worry about the electronics getting battered by the recoil?

I have had two Simmons fail when I needed them...I will never use another in a hunting situation!

Obviously I voted Nikon!

Couldn't help you with the glasses, before I got Lasik I wore contacts, but I've got about 200+ slugs (probably half of which were 3" magnums) through it and haven't had any issues so far. I've had the battery die on me because the knob got turned on while it was in it's case, but other than that no problems. Of course, YMMV.
