I have never trimmed my .38 Spl brass. I am not sure it would ever need trimming as long as you don't exceed published load data.

After 14 loadings, my very 1st batch of 38 (~28 years old) does not need trimming. I never had to trim any straight-walled cartridge brass, for that matter.
Rifle brass needs regular trimming, however.

No you don't, but I do. If you want a consistent crimp you may need to trim, I have RCBS carbide dies that roll crimp and constant case length has greatly improved the accuracy of my reloads.
You don't Have to wash your hands before dinner either, but I do :)

Only when crimping is consistant case length significant. .38 cases really don't stretch much so you only need do it once.

I've never trimmed them - but I toss them after about 10 reloads.

I shoot all pistol rounds until the cases show signs of wear (stress marks) or get lost or stepped on.

I have never, ever, measured or trimmed any of my pistol brass. but most of my cases have been loaded at most a dozen times, but I bought them used off a fella who stopped reloading, Lord knows how many times he shot them. ;)

I shoot .45acp, 44 mag, .38 spl, .357 mag, .32acp, 9mm and .454 casuall. The only ones I have ever had to trim was the .45acp. There were alot of differences from brand to brand. I set my trimmer to spec and 3 out of 4 were to long. Once I had all my .45acp trimmed I have yet to trim them again and that is after more than 10 reloads. All the other ones I set the trimmer and put the spent case in and it is to length and nothing to trim, even heavy 44 mag and .454 doesn't need to be trimmed.

If you never measure your pistol brass you create a self fullfilling prophesy that you never need to trim it. Some people find out differently the hard way. You should at least check your brass occasionally. ALL brass cartridge cases will elongate through resizing. Some do it faster and some do it slower.
