Finally. New floor is IN.

Bookshelves are IN. Most stuff is IN.

Office/studio is now office/studio/reloading room.

Only took me, what, a year or so since I first started thinking about this? :o:p I'm still trying to understand the Lee Classic Press I've got, and trying to figure out where the primer loader that I haven't bought yet will fit on the thing  and I'm still learning about powders and trying to figure out which one to use for my first batch of .45acp.

But I'm on my way. As soon as my cleaning tumbler starts working again, anyway.... It ran one batch of .45 brass, I stopped it, picked out all the brass, cleaned out all the little bits of tumbler material out of them (I think), stuck them in their little plastic case, primer side up. Dumped the second half of the batch in, turned it on, and went away. Came back 45 minutes later and the motor was humming  but not vibrating.

I'm assuming the motor just got over heated. I'll try it again later. If it's still humming instead of working, it will go back to Carter's and we'll see if they'll make good on it.

You have a locked up motor. It could burn out a winding or even cause a fire as it is now so don't try to use it until it's oiled and spins freely. What usually happens is the oil in the bearings, usually simple sleeves of brass, will dry out and the gum will prevent the shaft from turning. It's easy to fix if you get to it before the motor burns out, sounds like maybe you did.

You need to disassemble the tumbler enough to get access to the bearings, top and bottom, and put a few drops of new oil on them. All oils will eventually dry but I've found that Automatic Transmission Fluid lasts a long time, it is thin enough to flow well and it's cheep too! I get mine for Walmart's auto lubes department. I even use ATF for gun oil now, great stuff.

Congrats on getting your room done. We do all of our remodeling and I know how long some projects can take. If it is tha Classic Turret you are talking about let me know where you need help and I can take some pictures and post them to hopefully make it easier.

Springmom, there are lots of ways to look at your tumbler... And even fix it! But it was brand new, and shouldn't have malfunctioned.

The tumbler I traded for, last winter, had sat on my dealers shelf for 3 years. It performs fine. Your dealer (Carter's Country) should take care of it, and should they balk, just contact Lymans (Turbo 1200, right?) and they will certainly make it right.

trying to figure out which one to use for my first batch of .45acp.

Well, that opened an opportunity you could drive a semi through sideways with the lights on!

So, allow me to be the first to offer a safe option: 200gr bullets, 4.2 grains of Clays (not Universal Clays).

There are other, equally good combinations with other powders. I just happen to have a bunch of the Clays powder I got fairly cheap, and it works pretty good. When I run out of that I'll consider some Unique (I've done that with the 200 grainers as well), or maybe some Bullseye.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

Archerandshooter fixed it ;)

It seems that the spindle upon which the basket sits has the ability to turn itself too tight. When that happens, it quits working. What he did was to loosen it a bit, then seat another little nut on top of the one at the base of the spindle so that there is just a wee more bit of space there at the bottom of the rig. Then put the thing back together, and Bob's yer uncle.

And we bought a pound of Bullseye, as it also appears that it will be useful for handloading some slightly tamer .44mags. That's next.
