SxS Question

Folks,
I've got a question regarding SxS shotguns. My grandfather has a plain jane Higgins 12ga, single trigger, tang safety. It's been a while since I looked at this gun, but I don't recall seeing any kind of selector switch. So, in general, which barrel is shot first, the left or the right?

Not a big deal, but I'm just curious. I've never shot this gun before. Actually, I've never shot any SxS before.

In my experience, the right barrel fires first and is almost always choked less than the left.

Many JC Higgins shotguns were Stevens/Savage. Good guns.
