I don't know whats going on. I went to the range today. The last few times I've gone, no matter what gun I'm shooting. I shoot left. Keep shooting left of where ever I aim. What's up? Any ideas.

Time for some dryfire practice and then a trip to the range with your rimfire handgun...

Sounds like you're anticipating the shot--flinching.

Try using less finger on the trigger first, see if that is the problem.

+1 on what Lurper said...is the center of your fingerprint directly on the trigger? Are you squeezing too hard with your support hand?

you got a weak hand?

well, you got to keep the gun stationary as you pull the trigger, that requires good strength of hand...

and you are pushing the gun left with the trigger; you're pushing the gun left.

I do it, too.......

To remedy don't do it.

My finger is on trigger around the first joint. So, hand and wrist strengrhning excercises? And dry fire exercises? Yep, right handed. I.ve shot for years. I just havn.t been into so much the last 10 years or so. Range a few times a year. Thanks for the help everyone.

Dry fire and watch your trigger finger. Depending on the gun, the first joint may be too much. What happens is your trigger finger hits the side of the gun and pushes it left. Check that. The next thing to try is to dry fire a few time w/your eyes closed. Focus on pressing the trigger slowly and feeling it move every nm. Then open your eyes and focus on the sight while pressing the trigger in the same way. Watch what the front sight does.

Try shooting one handed and see if you still shoot left. If you do, then you are probably moving your entire hand when you press the trigger. If not, then you are probably squeezing your weak hand when you press the trigger.

Wrist and hand strength are not that important. Your grip should be loose but firm and your wrists should be in the same position it is when you shake hands.

You're almost certainly pushing the gun left when you 'jerk' the trigger. I do it myself from time to time and the result is always the same - point of impact left and below the target.

Did some dry fire. I am pulling slightly to the left. So I started shooting with my trigger finger tip just touching. And it was improved. Also working on grip. Thanks for the suggestions. So simple I feel like an idiot.

"So simple I feel like an idiot."

Don't be. Sometimes one gets so deep into the fine details of improvement that he/she forgets the basics. I believe that's what we're here for. Helping others out, no matter the obvious...;)

Shooting is simple, but being human we tend to try to make it more than it is. The best way is to shoot relaxed and natural. The hard thing is to remove your conscious mind from the process.

If you haven't seen this, perhaps it will help:

AS Uncle Ned says "Squeeze Your Whole Hand Not Just The Trigger Finger". This has helped me to improve my shooting and I got some snap caps for dry fireing to prevent damage to my guns.
