View Full Version : Show Off Your Mounts
February 6, 2007, 12:02 AM
From posting a few pics in another thread, I got the idea that some of ya'll enjoy the fine art of taxidermy. If I can work a digital camera, any of you should be able to as well. I bet somebody here has some impressive disembodied critter heads and I want to see them...
Here's a few of my favorites:
3/4 of a pound shy of the Lake Michigan Lake Trout record(29 1/2lbs)

Where's the rest of the cranium collectors? There must be a few wandering around here...
February 6, 2007, 08:45 PM
Too many to post them all....but here's some of the collection. Have around 40+ different mounts spread out in two homes. Everything from Brazilian Pirahna to Bison and Jackalopes. New trophy room is in the works this year, hope to have it done by fall. Sorry for the poor photo quality....

You really need to take me whitetail hunting with you! ;) I'm not that far from Iowa.:D
February 8, 2007, 07:52 PM
Me too! (Actually I just left waverly and I am in minneapolis) I think i'm going through withdrawl. haven't been hunting for two years and my finger is twitching.

Sorry guys, there are no big deer in Iowa....just a rumor cheesy magazines spread to increase sales. All those antlers came from Missouri and Minnesota. ;)
FirstFreedom, this ones for you.....a genuine Werewolf Killer Deer, very rare mutant species that howls at full moons durings halloween. Can only be killed with a silver bullet to the heart. (OK, would you believe it's Iowa's version of the Jackalope?)

I probably spend to much time in the woods according to my wife, but sometimes patience is rewarded.

Very nice grouper. Who did your mount. I saw either yours are another record at Chad Coopers place. He does the best work.
March 1, 2007, 05:27 PM
It was done at Coopers. I doubt another record will surface for that fish for quite some time. I beat the (10yr) old record by almost 2 lbs. That is a lot for an 8lb 7oz fish!!:D

After piling up many 6's, 8's and 1-9 and wanting a 10 pointer + for the wall. I got one and then the hypocrisy of it hit me like a sledge hammer. It isn't the size of the rack, but the quality of the hunt that counts.
My hunting partner is a master handicrafter(to me he is anyway) and was showing me some of the intarsia projects he has done in a book that sells patterns. in it was a deer head, and i asked if he ever did that one, he hadn't, and i asked him if he thought he could make it so i could put any rack into it i wanted. He took the challenge and in one week this is the result. Now all my daughters have my racks and the grandson has his 3-pointer placed in one.
