Further to my previous posting...... Does anyone have experience of the German Docter 3-9 x 40 scope? I've already ordered one, so it's too late to change direction, but now I'm wondering about my selection.

Good German glass at the price, and with an excellent sounding specification, would seem to make this a 'no brainer' choice. I notice though that it doesn't feature much in posts.

Docter used to be Carl Zeiss (Jena) in East Germany. I think they were silly to loose the Zeiss name. But a rose is a rose by any other name.

Thoughts?

I don't have one of their scopes, but I have been using one of their reflex sights for a couple of years.

Typical high quality German optics.

I'm guessing that the reason the search function does find too much, is many folks find "average" optics good enough, and find it hard to spend the money quality optics cost. Maybe...

I've ordered from The States (eBay brand new from a dealer) at $299. I thought that a brilliant deal. More than twice that here.

I wish one of this forum's users could offer me some feedback though. If I can't get information here, I'm sure it won't be anywhere.

don't personally own one, but have compared them side by side to my zeiss conquest and nikon monarch. same quality as far as i can tell. not the same level as my zeiss davaria, but on par with the cheaper conquest. Have never heard anything bad about them.

You may want to do a search for "Docter" over at www.opticstalk.com

Good Luck...

Joe:

Many thanks. I did just as you suggested. Not much, even there. It seems Docter are no longer a favoured brand in the States. Anyway, I post how my ordered scope turns out. John
