I am new to reloading and I am trying to conferm a load choice for a 38 special going thru a 2" barell 640 The bullet recomended was a 105 gr lswc, but I have not had any luck finding a chart in my manuals or online using this bullet with winchester 231 powder. The salesperson suggested starting with 4.8 grains of powder. Should I go up from there and to what max(5.?) Any other suggestions or websites with guides are appreciated??? This is going to be used for target only and getting used to a new handgun. Thanks

The most accurate load that I ever found for my S&W model 15 with a 2" barrel is: 158gr cast bullet with 3.5gr of Bullseye. HTH

Why a 105 grain bullet and not something such as a 125 or 158 grain bullet that you can find data for anywhere? but try the link below for some data.If it were me I would try the data for the 110 grain and work up slow and watch for signs of high pressure.good luck.

125gr data should be safe for the 105gr bullet.

for serious practice, or in the field use, I like remington 125gr golden sabres;
for plugging away with the grandkids, I use 148gr bbwc. bullseye has always worked for me, and 3.5 gr of it seems to work.
my mdl 15 has a 6" brl. have fun, but don't over due the powder.
