My Browning HP (9 mm) has suddenly stopped kicking out the empty magazine after the last round is fired and the magazine release is pushed. I thought that perhap the magazine spring was worn out so I installed a new one. Now - it sometimes kicks out the empty magazine - but not always. This is causing me some concern as this is my CW and I do not want to be fumbling with a stuck magazine in the well as part of the reloading process. Any suggestions?

Is the mag coming partway out? Does the loaded mag drop free? Sounds like the magazine safety is dragging on the mag body.

Yes, the magazine ejects about 1/4 inch and then just hangs up in the well when the release is pressed. Until recently, I never had this problem and with the new magazine spring the problem has been reduced - but something in that mag well is binding and I can not figure it out. Could the magazine release button need an adjustment?

The BHP has a magazine safety with a tab end that protrudes into the front of the magazine well. You can see it if you remove the slide and magazine and look into the mag well. Some folks remove the magazine safety; I don't recommend that just in case there is ever a problem with an accidental discharge and someone can say removal of a safety device shows gross negligence.

One thing that can be done without any work on the gun is to use fine emery to smooth the front of the magazines where the mag safety contacts. You can see that mark easily. Sticking is worse if the magazines are Parkerized.

I had the same problem with my 1911 it could just be the mag is giving you trouble.

If you did not have mag safety removed, do you use factory mags with mouse trap wires that help ejection?

"...new magazine spring..." The mag spring is in the mag. It has nothing to do with releasing the mag.
Are you using a new mag?

disconnect the mag safety, takes 20 minutes tops, reduces the trigger pull, makes the mags drop free, I have done it on both of my BHP's. Carelessness will cause a AD, not disconnecting the safety
