are taurus revolvers any good, the price on them seems alright, thinking about a snub in 44spl or mag. with the ported barrel. Also some are made of titanium, is that an o.k. gun? Need advice, thanks!

I have one and like it (357) .Never had any problems out of it .
A friend of my who is a retired gun smith ( in my area refered to as the master) told me that i would be be better off buying a used smith . somthing about the inner parts. so I personaly have bout nothing but smiths sense .

You've brought up the most debated subject in these parts from what I've seen in my short time here. You will hear praise and hate of that brand. I only have one, and after three trips to the factory for repair, they finally gave me a new one of the same model, which I've yet to shoot.

The ones that I've handled are not as butter smooth as my Smith's......... or Rugers for that matter. The accuracy is good, the price is good, but not much different than Ruger, which is a very good brand. If possible, handle as many as you can, shot them if possible. If you plan on getting several revolvers then a Taurus might help round out the arsenal. If I was buying only one, then S&W would be on top of my list for a new gun.....................ck

Taurus is great for revolver. I have issues with their semi-autos. Here's the deal on their customer service and repair. You need to heavily follow up with them while your gun is in their care. They test fired my gun the first time, and made sure that it was fine, and that i would not need to send it in again. This was after three or four calls to make sure they were looking at the specific issue at hand. I've put 500 rounds through since then with no problem.

I was at the range earlier this week with my Taurus auto and there were a group of guys at the tables next to me talking about Taurus this and Taurus that, bad service ect, ect. Not 20 minutes later, one of the smith revolvers they were shooting broke the arm that holds the cylinder in place. The whole cylinder assembly fell right out of the gun right there on the line.

I played nice and kept my comments to myself, but I have to confess that I had a smug grin inside. Maybe my Taurus hexed 'em with a little Brazilian VooDoo :D

I've been shooting long enough to know that any gun can break, but I really am begining to think that Taurus gets more criticism than they deserve. Earlier this year, I sold my Glock 36 due to reliability issues. So far, my Taurus has proven to be much more dependable than it was. My Glock 19 and Glock 26 however are flawless.

I think manufacturer is less important that reliability. If my guns function 100%, are accurate and dependable I really don't worry too much about what is stamped on the side. ;)

My advice would be to get a ruger, a better gun for the money in my opinion.
But I do own several Tauri.
They have all been good reliable guns except for the one I sold, a .357 Tracker Titanium.
After maybe 50 rds. of .357 the titanium cylinder face began to pit!??
I would never own another ti. gun regardless of who makes it.

Howdy, Own three Taurus revolvers and 1 PT111 pistol. These all have given wonderful service over the years. Are you on a budget? If not the Rugers or S&W may be the way to go. Taurus usually has lower prices but depends on what use the gun is going to get. Owned Ruger revolvers to and they are hard to beat for dureability. In these parts of the state Taurus has a large following in the snubbies and large bore crowd. No complaints so far or signs of breakage. So far I can give them a thumbs up. Why not go over to www.unitedforums.com and look at the Taurus Forum-powered by Infopop. Search and browse the threads there. Whiners and complainers will be along shortly to condemn in strongest terms any Taurus product. Searching old threads may help. Realise that there are lemons any company lets slip from time to time. This can mean the other large makers as well. If one has had a bad example that should not condemn a whole line of guns. However, there are those who will not make the case of why Taurus guns are good or bad. Others will swear or use boorish behavior in stating their case. There are trolls who's only joy(if they ever have any) is to belittle any choice one care to make. Check as many gunshops and shows as possible. If there are Taurus users at your local range or show ask them their opinon. There are bad examples of Taurus out here. There are also decent ones. S&W had problems when the 645 .45ACP pistol came out and it took complaints, time and re-engineering to make things right, but they did just that. No one came out condemning S&W as horrible and never would anybody ever buy another. No, the first owners were not happy, but things were put right. This is just an example. Discount opinions backed without fact. One can make a case for a firearm without getting emotional about it. Never had a breakdown with any Taurus I have had. Maybe I'm just lucky. Then I thoroughly check out every gun I buy and test check it. If not I will not buy it,not even on the internet. Good luck on your pick and keep us posted on what you decide.

To me Taurus does not rate with Ruger or Smith and Wesson in terms of metal quality and durability, or quality control coming from the factory. A used Ruger or Smith steel revolver, if in good condition, would be as good or better a value than a new Taurus of same price.

But Taurus is OK; I have carried them for defense. More like a "car gun" than something to cherish for decades, in my book.

I own and have owned several Taurus revolvers in the past. The only issues I have/had are the heavy DA pull on the M94s I've came across.

I will be buying more in the future. :)

Thanks to everyone for all of this helpful advice, will have to go to gun show's and gun shop's in the area for some hands on experience. I have 3 Smiths, and have owned them for a long time, never had any problems, just was curious about tauras, they look attractive and the company has been around along time.
